Christopher James Kukla, 60, of Appleton, Wisconsin, passed away Wednesday, February 4, 2026, at ThedaCare Medical Center after a courageous battle with pancreatic disease.
Chris was born on December 30, 1965, in Tinley Park, Illinois, to Walter and Jackie (Miller) Kukla. He was raised in Marquette, Michigan, alongside his siblings Faye, Walter Jr., Tom, and John. He attended Marquette Senior High School and completed a vocational program through Northern Michigan University’s Jacobetti Center, earning certification in auto body repair and paint. After spending time in that career, he began working in the telecommunications industry where he enjoyed a successful life-long career. Chris was in a commercial airline plane crash on March 13, 1986 with his father Walter Sr. He saved passengers from fire and wreckage by enduring physical and emotional distress. After this tragic accident, he earned a lifesaving effort award for his acts of heroism that day.
In his twenties, Chris married Becky (Christian) Kukla, and together they built a life and family, first settling in LaPorte, Indiana. They later moved to Appleton, Wisconsin, in 2001, where they raised their three children, Loran, Ryan, and Scott, and became proud grandparents to Lowell, Marsden, and Elsie.
Chris was a loving husband, father, and grandfather known for his big smile, quick humor, and adventurous spirit. He was a great provider for his family and a friend you could always count on. A man of many nicknames, Chris was very well liked and a blessing to all he met. He was also an avid Chicago sports fan who cheered faithfully for the Cubs, Bears, and Blackhawks. He had a lifelong love of music. Whether it be guitar, karaoke, or just listening to tunes in his garage - music was prominent in his life. He enjoyed spending time outdoors. Chris loved snowmobiling, boating, fishing, and riding his motorcycle with his wife and friends.
Chris is survived by his wife Becky (Christian) Kukla He is also survived by his children. His daughter Loran Alee York (Joseph), Ryan Christopher Kukla, and Scott Alan Kukla. He was blessed with three grandchildren: Lowell Merkes, Marsden Merkes, and Elsie York. Chris is also survived by his brother Thomas (Lori) Kukla from New Haven, CT.
Chris is preceded in death by his parents, Walter J. Kukla Sr. and Jacquelyn (Miller) Kukla and his siblings Faye T. Kukla, Walter Kukla Jr., and John F. Kukla. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his family and all who knew him.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 21, 2026 at Valley Funeral Home; 2211 N. Richmond St. Appleton, WI from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The memorial service will begin at 1:00 p.m. following visitation. Online condolences may be expressed at www.valleyfh.com
