Barbara Ann Germiat died on January 1, 2025, at Rennes Health and Rehab Center in Appleton. She was born in Delavan, Wisconsin, to Philip and Emma (Mezera) Steffanus on September 16, 1936. She grew up on Fawn Dawn Farm outside of Delavan, where she attended St. Andrews Elementary School and Delavan High School (serving as editor of the 1954 Yearbook). She then attended Saint Norbert’s College where she received a baccalaureate degree in Chemistry in 1958, just the third graduating class to include women at SNC. Over her career, she worked as a librarian, journalist, public information specialist at UW-Fox Valley, and director of religious education for St. Pius X school. She was also a poet and had her poetry published in WFOP Calendar, Fox Cry Literary Review, Portage (online), Creative Wisconsin Literary Journal, Appleton Post-Crescent, Sisters Today, St. Anthony Messenger, and elsewhere. A collection of her poems entitled “Look, The Silence” was published by Antrim House in 2017. She is survived by her sons Tom and Steve, 5 grandchildren (Ayron, Adam, Jason, Hannah, Emily) and two great grandchildren (Arya and Maverick). She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Norbert, her son Dick, and husband Hubert.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am on Wednesday, January 8, 2025 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 404 W Lawrence Street, Appleton. Visitation will take place at the church on Wednesday from 9:00 am until the time of mass. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery in Appleton.
