Alvera "Vera" N. Keeney

Vera Keeney, 86, passed away Friday, May 1, 2026 at ThedaCare Regional Medical Center, Appleton.  She was born March 7, 1940, in Waupaca, the daughter of the late Myrtle (Johnson) Olson.  Vera started her adult life living in Black Creek where she had a farm with horses, dogs, and beef cattle.  The family owned and operated Shamrock Construction, and Vera was very proud to help out with the daily operations there, as well as her job with Godshall Paper Box Company, where she worked for many years as Plant Manager until her retirement.

Vera shared her life with Dan Lampert, her longtime companion of 27 years until he passed away April 10, 2017.  They enjoyed watching Packer games, going to Brewer games and just being with family.  Vera exuded positivity with everything, even after being diagnosed with Melanoma, and when her eyes got bad and she couldn't drive anymore, she was grateful for family and friends to help get her where she needed to go.  She enjoyed seeing her friends at the thrift store and they always greeted each other with big hugs.  Vera was a well-dressed woman who wore coordinating hats and earrings with every outfit, and the lipstick had to match! She will be dearly missed by her nieces, who devoted a lot of their time to driving Vera to her appointments and the grocery store, as well as enjoyed a day out together.  Her neighbors Mike, Lance, Lana, and Sue will also miss seeing Vera and helping out where needed.

Vera is survived by her son, Roy (Barb) Keeney; a granddaughter, Rachel Keeney; sisters: Darlene Guyette, Liz Spalding, and Roseann Ohap; a sister-in-law, Sharon Olson; nieces, nephews and many friends; her dear cat, Lulu.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Myrtle; brothers: Merlin (Anna May) and Beauford Olson; sisters: Charlotte Schlack and Dorothy (Don) Ebben; brothers-in-law, Steve Spalding and Robert Ohap; her longtime companion, Dan.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 12, 2026, at Appleton Highland Memorial Park chapel, 3131 N. Richmond Street.   Burial will follow.  Visitation will be in the chapel from 10:00 a.m. Tuesday until the time of the service.  In lieu of flowers, please consider Lulu and donate to Saving Paws Animal Rescue, N3141 Meade Street, Appleton, 54913.

The family would like to express special thanks to Dr. Bista and Dr. Salm and their staffs, for all the wonderful care over the years.
