Adam Berg Obituary

Adam was born the 16th of 18 kids on October 3, 1944.  He was raised on a farm where Fleet Farm, Sound World and The Wisconsin Ave Diner is located. He attended St. Joseph and Xavier schools. It was through his sister Evie’s boyfriend Reg that he met and married Charlotte DeBroux of Kaukauna, bringing with her a clan of 13 siblings!

Throughout his career, Adam worked as a backhoe operator digging foundations all over Appleton and the fox river valley. He worked moving houses and barns and even lifting wrecked trains off the tracks.  He was also a volunteer firefighter for the Grand Chute Fire Department for 25 years. In his later life, Adam dedicated his life to helping others. While attempting to make himself a recumbent bicycle, he stumbled upon recumbent tricycles. It turned out that they were very beneficial for the handicapped and autistic. By the time he hung up his welder, he had made over 45 recumbent trikes, bikes, tandem and even hand cranked bikes through his non-profit AJTrikes!  While working with the Lions club, he became involved with the ramp building team, as we all referred to him as MacGyver, there wasn’t anything he couldn’t build or fix. With over 275 ramps under his belt, he handed over his tape measure to the younger crew. In recent years, along with caring for his wife before her passing in 2019, he experienced the excitement and love of great grandchildren, racking up seven in just a few short years.

Adam is survived by his son Douglas (Tina) Berg, daughter Ellen Austreng and Kenn Paulson and daughter Sheila (Dan) Segerstrom, grandchildren; Aaron Berg, Matthew Berg, Molly (Nick) Geniesse, Taylor (Amanda) Austreng, Ryan (Stephanie) Berg, Katy Segerstrom and Nick Segerstrom, great grandchildren; Addylin Berg, Mathais Berg, Bridget Austreng, Brannon Berg, Anderson Berg, Evan Geniesse and Ameila Berg.  He is further survived by his siblings; Vincent (Ione) Berg, Joan Janz, Loretta (Gerald) Schultz, Anna (Richard) Hayes and Florence Walker, brother’s and Sister’s-in-law; Melvin DeBroux, Norman (Marge) DeBroux, Leonard DeBroux, Lee (Diana) DeBroux, Richard (Jean) DeBroux, Marlene Fink, Sharon (James) Lettau, Ronald DeBroux, Janice DeBroux and over 100 nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife Charlotte, parents; his father and mother-in-law Ralph and Gertrude DeBroux, siblings; Fran and Lavern Berg, Gerald and Mildred Berg, John and Verone Berg, Jerome and Leone Berg, Hubert and Delores Berg, Leo and Therese Berg, Peter and Anita Berg, Carlton and Geraldine Berg, Margaret Maxfield, George and Judy Berg and Evelyn DeBroux, Brother’s and Sister’s-in-law; Audrey (Melv) DeBroux,  LaVonne (Len) DeBroux, Pete (Joan) Janz and Paul (Flo) Walker.
