Verlyn Duane Ferg, 92 of Appleton passed into the arms of Jesus on Thursday, July 12, 2018.
He was born in Manawa, WI on February 15, 1926, son of Max Otto and Leona (Kriese) Ferg. Verlyn was married to Jeanette A. Schultz, the mother of his children, from 1947 until 1967. Verlyn married Edith “Jane” Van Dalman on March 16, 1969. Verlyn and Jane celebrated 47 years of marriage before her death on June 6, 2016.
Verlyn was a union carpenter until he retired in 1987 at the age of 61. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Appleton. He was also a member of the Appleton Evening Lions International Club (in which he had over fifty years of perfect attendance), Local 955 Carpenters Union, Midwest Chippers, Appleton YMCA, “Up Your Assets” Investment Club, and his “Coffee Clutch” at the Golden Basket Restaurant. Verlyn loved to travel, visiting many different countries throughout the world and his many fishing trips in Canada. He also was a very talented wood carver.
Verlyn is survived by his two children: daughter, Marcia (Dennis) Jakubowski and son, Billy (Dawn) Ferg; five grandchildren:Matthew (Jill), Grant and Bradley Jakubowski, Melanie (David) Winter, Adam (Martine) Ferg; five great grandchildren: Olivia, Sophia and Victoria Winter, Emma Grace and Isaac Ferg; and his sister, Caroldean Bergen, and his four nephews and their families.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Jeanette, wife Jane, and his brother-in-law Wayne Bergen.
Funeral service for Verlyn will be at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, July 17 at VALLEY FUNERAL HOME, with Rev. Brian Bankert officiating. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Tuesday morning beginning at 9:00 until the 11:00 A.M. service. Entombment will be at the Star of Hope Mausoleum at Highland Memorial Park.
