Twila Fay Wentzel, age 90, died peacefully on Tuesday, March 27, 2018 at her home in Appleton.
Twila was born on February 27, 1928 in Shiocton, Wisconsin daughter of the late Sherman and Eva (Johnson) Payton. She was a Shiocton High School graduate. Following High School she attended the Green Bay School of Cosmetology. Twila then met Darwin “Dar” Wentzel who was serving his Country in the US Army and they were married on April 19, 1952. Twila and Dar loved spending time with their children and grandchildren and taking trips up North to Pickerel Lake. She also was formerly employed with the Telephone Company and later started with the New Appleton K-Mart in 1968 and retired as the stores Assistant manager in 1990. Twila was also a faithful member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ of Appleton.
She is survived by her children, Cheryl and Charles Meyerhofer, Darboy; Lynn Wentzel and Steve Laabs, Menasha; David (Rhonda) Wentzel, New London; and Janice (Scott) Rucks, Greenville; seven grandchildren, Ryan, Camey, Jessica, Trevor, Joshua, Shannon and Kaitlyn, and seven great-grandchildren, Evan, Kayla, Madeline, Jacob, Amelia, Sophia and Bennett, a sister, Dorothy Theede, Shiocton. Twila was also preceded in death by her husband on March 22, 2004 and a brother, Neale Payton.
The funeral service for Twila will be held 2 p.m. on Monday, April 2, 2018 at the Star of Hope Chapel at Highland Memorial Park 3131 N Richmond Street, Appleton with the Rev. Kathryn Kuhn officiating. Interment will be in Highland Memorial Park. Twila’s family will receive relatives and friends at the cemetery Chapel on Monday from 12 Noon until 1:45 p.m. with the service to follow.
