Tom Harwood, 67 passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by his loving family, on Friday January 26th, 2018 at Eden Meadows with the support of Generations Home Care and Hospice.
Tom was born August 19, 1950 son of the late Frank and Anne Harwood at St. Joseph’s Memorial Hospital in Hancock, MI. One of six children, he attending St. Ignatius Loyola Catholic School, Houghton High School and completed his education at Michigan Tech University with a degree in business administration.
He dedicated his professional career to the highway transfer industry, holding several positions including delivery and transport, insurance adjuster and instructor. These job opportunities allowed Tom to travel and explore many of his favorite places in the Upper Peninsula of MI and the state of Wisconsin.
Tom married Nancy Ann DeLuca in 1978 and together raised two incredible sons, Frank and Eric, the apple of Tom’s eye. He lived a full life and shared it with life-long friends and family. He loved the outdoors! He enjoyed hunting, kayaking, motorcycle riding, saunas, pasties and dancing. As a devoted Red Wing fan he never missed an opportunity to cheer for his beloved “great ones!”
Tom was further preceded in death by his older brother David. He is survived by his two sons: Frank (Meghan), Eric (Jessie) Harwood; grandchildren Piper, Paige, Hailey and (soon to be born Bentley Thomas Harwood); sisters Nancy Lee Leifried (Norm) Patricia O’Donnell (Tim) Paul Harwood (Janice) Mary Jo Harwood (Jim); and his special friend Kim. He is further survived by many nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles, and friends who loved him very much.
A funeral service for Tom will be at 1:00 PM on Monday January 29th at the VALLEY FUNERAL HOME. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Monday beginning at 12:00 PM until the 1:00PM service.
