Shirley Johnston, born August 19, 1941 in Milwaukee, WI; to parents, Daniel P. Steuck and Lillian A. Trinkle, died in their Menasha home on April 2, 2018. She is survived by daughter, Shelby A. DePas (Richard J. DePas), Grandson, Derek R. DePas, and sister, Ruth Thomas.
Shirley married Bill Johnston on December 5, 1964. They had two children, Robert D. Johnston and Shelby A. Johnston (DePas). She was preceded in death by Rob Johnston on January 15th, 2000. Shirley was a loving and devoted mother, wife and grandmother. She was a skilled typist and retired from Affinity transcription services. She enjoyed working in her yard, bike riding, baking, and walking her many dogs through the years. After fifty-three years of marriage and less than six months from the passing of Shirley, Bill Johnston also passed.
William Johnston, born April 2, 1942 in Bradford, PA; to parents Robert L. Johnston and Marian E. Cline died at his home on September 25, 2018. He served with great pride in the US Navy from 1961-1964 and he often spoke very fondly of his adventures on the USS Suribachi. He met “the most beautiful girl” in Milwaukee when he was on leave from Great Lakes Naval Base. Shirley agreed to let the uniformed Navy man carry her luggage to the bus. That was the start of a commitment through good times and bad, sickness and health. Bill was a skilled machinist and enjoyed working and playing in his home shop, and also enjoyed eating all sorts of baked goods.
A quiet gathering for friends and family will be held from 10 am -2 pm on Sunday October 7th at their home at 835 Broad St. Menasha.
