Robert “Bob” William Pownell, 82, of Appleton, died Saturday August 11, 2018 at The Renaissance. He was born October 18, 1935 in Three Lakes, WI, son of the late Alfred and Pearl (Wolff) Pownell. Bob was united in marriage with Audrey Emrich on October 27, 1956 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Hortonville. Audrey preceded Bob in death on January 13, 2002.
Bob proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He joined the Appleton Police Department in October 1965 where he worked for 23 years until his retirement in January 1988. Bob enjoyed traveling and camping when he was able. His greatest enjoyment came from time spent with his family.
Bob is survived by his three sons: Jeffrey, Gillett, Mark, Killeen TX., and Scott (Christina), Appleton; nine grandchildren: Robert, William, Kimberly, Tricia, Desiree, Brandon, David, Elisha, and Heather; two step grandchildren: Jacob and Samantha Steldt; 22 great grandchildren; and five step great grandchildren; brother, Jim (special friend, Mary); sister, June Thompson; two ½ brothers: Cloyde (Judy) Thede and Claude (Shirley) Thede; and many nieces and nephews. He was further preceded in death by two brothers: Robert and Donald; and his sister, Jane; and brother in-law, Ben Thompson.
Funeral service for Bob will be 11:00 AM on Friday August 17, 2018, at APPLETON ALLIANCE CHURCH, 2963 W. Grand Chute Blvd, Appleton with Rev. Dennis Episcopo officiating. Visitation will be held at the church Friday morning beginning at 9:00 until 10:45 AM, with the funeral service to start at 11:00 AM. Full military honors will follow. Entombment will be at Highland Memorial Park, Appleton.
