Richard Haas Obituary

Richard S. “Dick” Haas passed away peacefully in his sleep at home in Menasha on May 24, 2018.

Dick was born in Kaukauna, WI on December 2, 1927, son of the late Albert and Luzella (Bauer) Haas.  Dick married Mary Lou (McGillan) on December 29, 1951. They celebrated 58 years together before her death on April 25, 2010.

Dick served his country in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII having served in the Pacific theatre.  He was a printer by trade, working for more than 30 years at George Banta Publishing Co. and many years at Graphic Composition before retiring. He and Mary Lou especially enjoyed AHS-East basketball and Dick was a founding and 50 plus year member of the George Banta Credit Union.  He was an avid Green Bay Packer fan, enjoyed fishing, his Friday night fish fries, and watching all sports on television.

Dick  is survived by his three sons: Pete (Molly Kelly), Bill (Robbie) and Paul (Wilma); 8 grandchildren: Jenny Traynor,  Andy (Krystina) Haas, Frances Lueder, Sara (Ryan) Fraser, Colin (Kristen) Haas, Maddy Haas, Maggie Haas and Jacob Haas;  7 great-grandchildren: Cody, Ethan, Candace, Chelsea, Alexa, Madison, and Alexandra; and his extended family: Carol Vandenberg-Haas and Mary Tice-Haas.   Dick was further preceded in death by an infant brother, John, and dear friend Sue Klingeisen.

Funeral service for Dick will be 11:30 AM on Saturday June 2, 2018 at VALLEY FUNERAL HOME with Fr. Jon Thorsen officiating. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Saturday morning beginning at 9:30 until the 11:30 AM service. Burial will be at Highland Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers please make donations to Heckrodt Wetland Preserve.

Dick’s family would like to thank his neighbors for all of their special attention over the years and the Theda Care hospice nurses for seeing to his needs over the last few weeks. Dick’s last wish was to remain at home. That was possible through the loving care of granddaughter Jenny Traynor and her friend Mary Spilski.
