Muriel A. (Lehrer) Volden

Muriel A. Volden of Appleton, Wisconsin was called to her Savior’s side this past Saturday, March 2, 2019.

Muriel was born on April 14, 1934 to the late Cornelius & Marion (Wilson) Lehrer. She married her first husband Allen Brand on October 22, 1955. They were married for 12 years. Muriel married her second husband Gordon Sordahl on March 24, 1973, and remained married until Gordon passed. Muriel met her third husband Marvin Volden at a Country Western JAM (dancing) and was married to him on May 29, 1996. She remained married until Marvin passed in 2000.They loved their dancing and would go to JAMs as often as they could. They also took many wonderful trips together for vacation and visiting family. They so loved their time together.

Muriel was a lifelong cook, for the Milwaukee Public Schools, University of Wisconsin - La Crosse, and the Westby/Viroqua school systems. She also worked for Bethel Home as an in-home helper where she would care for people who could not care for themselves. After retirement she enjoyed volunteering and helping people in Viroqua and Westby. Muriel moved to Appleton, WI in 2011 to be closer to her daughter.  She attended St. Pius Church and gave rides to people who could not drive to church, until she could not. We would like to thank the very kind people who then took their time to give mom a ride.

Among Muriel’s survivors are her daughter, Linda (Jonathan) Beierle of Appleton, WI, son Robert (Mary) Brand of Marion, IA, her grandchildren/great grandchildren: Zachary Beierle (Amanda Schumacher), Art Drow – Nicolas & Dominic of Crowley, Texas, Luis (Keri) Chevez – Elizabeth, Anica, Xzavier, & Isabella of Hannibal, MO, Monica (Jorge) Hernandez – Elva & Jordy, Aurora, IL, Robert Brand Jr., Marion, IA, Matthew (Judy) Brand – Brendan & Ethan, Hannibal, MO. She so loved her family. She is further survived by a sister, brother & one sister-in-law: Sylvia (Norman) Chauvin, Des Allemands, LA, Bruce (Kathy) Lehrer, Cudahy, WI. and Rita Lehrer, and many loving nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by husbands Allen Brand & Gordon Sordahl as well as two brothers and a sister-in-law: Jude (Doris) Lehrer and Charles Anthony (Tony) Lehrer husband to Rita Lehrer.

Funeral Mass for Muriel will be 11:30 AM on Thursday, March 7, 2019 at ST. PIUS X CATHOLIC CHURCH, 500 W Marquette St, Appleton, WI. Visitation will be held Thursday morning at the church beginning at 9:00 AM until 11:15 AM, with the Funeral Mass to begin at 11:30 AM. A Private Burial will take place at Vang Cemetery in Westby, WI. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established.

Muriel’s family would like to thank the staff at Brewster Village for their wonderful care and compassion that they provided to mom, God Bless all that you do, you are so appreciated!
