Mary Ritchie Obituary

Sue Ritchie passed away peacefully on September 14, 2018 at St. Elizabeth hospital in Appleton, WI.  She was born in Green Bay, WI on August 18, 1936 to Mary Hammes Mall and John Hartley Mall.

Sue attended Green Bay East high school. After high school, Sue was employed by North Central Airlines at the Green Bay airport.  Sue was offered the position of “weather girl” at a local TV station after the manager heard her make announcements at the airport. Sue turned the offer down, citing that pay was better at the airline. Sue met fellow employee, Roman R. Ritchie and they were married on June 14, 1958, at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Green Bay.

Sue and Roman lived in Clintonville, WI where Roman was station manager at the airport for North Central Airlines and where their 4 children were born. Sue and her family eventually moved to the Fox Valley where she and Roman owned and operated Travel Service of Neenah-Menasha.  Sue enjoyed traveling and visited many countries throughout the world, often traveling by herself, but making friends where ever she went.

In 1987, Sue and Roman purchased the Journey's End Motel in Bailey's Harbor, WI which they operated until 1996.  Sue was active in the Jaycee's, Altrusa Club and the Bailey's Harbor Business Association.

Sue's biggest joy was being grandmother to her 5 grandchildren.  She assisted raising 2 of her grandchildren after the death of their mother at a very young age.  Sue was known for her kind spirit and welcomed many people to be a part of the family.

Sue is survived by three of her children; Mary (Steve) Patton, McHenry, IL, Theresa (John ) Holtz, Greenville, WI and Robert R. Ritchie, Appleton, WI.,  5 grandchildren; Mathew Patton, Christopher and Jennifer Holtz and Cassidy and Cameron Ritchie. She is also survived by a brother Thomas Mall and cousins Sandy Scherer and Jeff Hammes.

Sue was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Roman, daughter Wendy S. Ritchie and daughter in law Vicky Ritchie.  The family would like to thank Janelle Kettering for all that she has done for the family.
