Janet Kasten Obituary

Janet Kasten, 86, went to heaven peacefully in her sleep on February 17, 2018.  She was born January 15, 1932 on a rural farm in Black Creek.  She graduated from Seymour High School and on November 11, 1950, the Lord blessed Janet with her marriage to Alvin Kasten, her husband of 67 years.  Their marriage has been filled with many blessings including their 4 loving children, 8 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. She was a long-time, active member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Appleton.  Janet was a stay at home mom with a huge garden.  She baked wonderful desserts such as elephant ears and the world’s best apple pie.  Janet had many talents including being an awesome seamstress sewing clothes, drapes, quilted blankets and furniture re-upholstery.  Once her children were all in school Janet worked at several dry cleaners sewing alterations. Janet was an avid reader of Brett Favre and Donald Driver books.  Janet and Alvin enjoyed traveling the United States with Farmers on the Bum.  In her later years, she continued sewing out of her home with Alvin by her side helping with the alterations with polkas always playing in the background.  Alvin fondly remembers these years and their morning walks that started each day.

Janet is survived by her husband, Alvin, who took such devoted care of her as her health declined; children; Dennis (Debbie) Kasten, Sue (Rick) Barber, Carol (Tom) Mulinix, Duane (Kathy) Kasten; grandchildren, Scott (Angie) Mulinix, Jacob (friend Ginny) Mulinix, Jon Barber, Jenny (Brandon) Corcoran, Matt (Louise) Kasten, Mike (friend Stephanie) Kasten, Elyse (Kevin) Andrews, Alex (Jamie) Kasten; great grandchildren, Felix and Harriet Mulinix and Molly Corcoran; brother and sisters-in-law, Orla Schmidt, Phyllis Schmidt, John and Betsy Kasten and many nieces and nephews.

Janet was preceded in death by her parents and in-laws, infant daughter, 3 brothers and sister-in-law, Gilbert (Dorothy), David, and Richard Schmidt.  Alvin’s family: Dorothy (Harold) Riehl and Verna (Paul) Rohloff.

The funeral service for Janet will be held on Thursday, February 22, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 129 South Mason Street, Appleton with Pastor Jonathan Kuske officiating. A visitation for Janet will be held from 9-10:45 a.m. Service to follow.
