Donald “Don” Steffens, 69, of Appleton, passed away peacefully at ThedaCare Regional Medical Center of Appleton after a long hard fight with cancer on March 3, 2018. Don was born December 22, 1948 to the late Fred and Jeannetta (Probst) Steffens. Don proudly served in the United States Army during Vietnam War and earned two Purple Hearts along with various other metals for his service. Most of Don’s working career he spent working at Rich’s Bakery and then finally retired from Luvata in Appleton. Don was married to his wife, Sandy, for 16 wonderful years and they enjoyed riding the Harley Davidson as well as traveling as much as they could together.
Don is survived by his wife, Sandy; son, Shane (Anna) Steffens; step-children Tammy (Mike) Cantrall, Paul (Lori) Barth and Tony (Jill) Mach; brothers, Earl (Sandy) Steffens, Neil (Nancy) Steffens; sisters: Ruth (Howard) Schwamer and Alice (Ray) Noffke. He is further survived by his grandson, Austin Steffens, 6 step-grandchildren, as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.
Don was preceded in death by his son, Owen Steffens; his parents; sister, Rose, and brothers, Cyril, John, Walter and Robert; sisters-in-law, Alice Steffens and Ruth Steffens.
Funeral services and military honors for Don will be held at 4:00 pm on Saturday, March 10, 2018 at Valley Funeral Home with the Rev. Mike Huff officiating. Don’s family will receive relatives and friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 1:00 – 3:45 pm.
Entombment will take place at Highland Memorial Park.
The family would like to extend their deepest appreciation to Don’s best friend, Brian Zenefski, and the entire staff at ThedaCare Regional Medical Center of Appleton as well as the Cancer Center at Froedtert Hospital.
Don will be deeply missed by his wife, son and entire family.
