Calvin Archie Steward Sr, 94, of White Lake, WI; died peacefully surrounded by his family on Saturday November 3, 2018 at his son’s home in Appleton. He was born in Seymour on October 31, 1924, son of the late Sidney and Lillie (Nietzke) Steward.
Calvin served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII. He served in the campaigns in New Guinea, Northern Solomons and in Luzon. Calvin was awarded the Asiatic-Pacific Theater service ribbon, Distinguished Unit Badge, Philippine Liberation Service Ribbon with one bronze star and the Good Conduct Medal He returned home and married Lillian (Ebben) Platten on October 8, 1947. Calvin owned and operated Cal’s Standard Oil Service Station, Cal’s Sinclair Service Station and Cal’s Morning Glory Dairy in Seymour. Calvin was an avid hunter and sportsman as he treasured those times with his family. He later married Jane (Pacer) Neal on October 1982. She preceded him in death on April 30, 2017.
Calvin is survived by his children: Shari (Mick) Wolf, Antigo, Cal Jr. (Diane) Steward, Appleton, Tim (Kathie) Steward, Appleton and Michael Steward, Neenah; four step children: Kathy Frye, IA., Terry (Wendy) Neal, MI., Debbie Kaulum, Rhinelander and Cindy Neal, MI; seven grandchildren: Tammi (Tim) Miller, Amy (Mel) Pollom, Kip (Amber) Rueden, Charity Recla, Adam (Janet) Steward, Josh Steward and Christine (Ben) Hansen; 11 step grandchildren: Nikki, Dan, Janey, Cara, Eric, Joe, Jennifer, Anna, Tonya, Sirneal and Terrance; 27 step great grandchildren; sister Marcella Gagnow; and sister in-law Dorothy Steward. He was further preceded in death by a great grandson Taylor Nelson; step son in-law Craig Kaulum; two brothers: Jim (Marie) Steward, Howard Steward; four sisters and brothers in-law: Lenora (Ed) Schmit, Marion (John) Babbitt, Lilyan (Herbert) Meyer and Darlene (William) Verbruggen; and brother in-law Orville Gagnow.
Memorial service for Calvin will be 5:00 PM on Thursday November 8, 2018 at VALLEY BAPTIST CHURCH, 3600 N. Chippewa St. Appleton with Rev. Larry Creamer officiating. Visitation will be held at the church on Thursday Afternoon beginning at 3:00 until the 5:00 PM service.
