Robert James Hoffman

Robert James Hoffman, 88, Neenah, went to join his family and friends in Heaven on Thursday February 1, 2018 at ThedaCare Regional Medical Center, Neenah. He was born in Menasha on February 18, 1929, son of the late Raymond and Ella (Knuth) Hoffman. Robert married Ruby (Park) on October 9, 1948 at St. John Ev. Reformed Church, Black Creek. They enjoyed 54 years together until her death on May 15, 2003.

Bob graduated from Menasha High School class of 1947. He served his country in the U.S. Marine Corp during the Korean Conflict. In September 1958, Bob joined the City of Neenah Fire Department, where he served for 31 years, the last six as Fire Chief. He was instrumental in securing funding for equipment to start the City of Neenah cold water rescue. In his spare time, Bob enjoyed caring for his rose garden, playing cribbage, and visiting with his friends at local establishments. He was a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ, Black Creek, both the AMVETS post #160 and American Legion post #337 in Pulaski and PLAV (Polish Legion of American Veterans) # 178 in Krakow. His greatest enjoyment came from time spent with his family.

Bob is survived by his two granddaughters: Rachel (Joseph) Cary, Zachow, WI; and Hilary (Benjamin) Vogt, Pulaski, WI; two great grandchildren: Daniel, and Jacob; daughter in-law: Debra Hoffman; and several nieces and nephews. He was further preceded in death by his son, Daniel; sister, Shirley Mertz; and his father and mother in-law: Ray and Rose Park.

A memorial service for Bob will be held on Thursday February 8, 2018 at 12:00 PM at VALLEY FUNERAL HOME, with Rev. Dr. Tom Fritz officiating. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Thursday morning beginning at 10:00 Am until the 12:00 PM service. Full military honors will follow.  In lieu of flowers, donations in Bob’s name can be made to St. John U.C.C. Black Creek, or the Neenah-Menasha Fire Rescue.
