Helen Marie Armitage, 84, of Appleton, died Saturday February 10, 2018 at The Bridges of Appleton Nursing Home. She was born in Dale, WI on Sunday April 16, 1933, daughter of the late Warren and Sophie (Gawersky) Schiesser. Helen married the love of her life, James Armitage on September 27, 1952, at St. John’s Church, Seymour, WI.
Helen worked at several companies during her life, including Larsen canning Company, Hortonville, Zwickers Knitting Mill, Appleton, Simple Simons Bakery, and as a lunch lady at Huntley School. She volunteered her time and talent at Appleton Medical Center. Helen had a love for crafting, which she did all through her life. She loved attending craft shows, where she not only sold her crafts, but also bought many others. Helen also loved being outdoors; she enjoyed camping, fishing, and gardening. Helen and James created the most beautiful gardens, where all were invited to relax and enjoy.
Helen is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, James; their four children: Rose Ann (John) Alt, Virginia (Greg) Werner, Warren (Jill nee’ Charlesworth) Armitage, and Susan (Scott) Forseth; her sister, Mary Bailey; 10 grandchildren: James Werner, Nicole Werner, Cole Armitage, Sarah Armitage, Scott Werner, Tammy Werner, Travis Forseth, Krista Forseth, Rebecca Schnasse, and Craig Alt; and many great grandchildren. She was further preceded in death by her daughter, Rose Ann Alt; sister, Alice VanDenHuevel; and brother, Burt Scheisser.
Funeral service for Helen will be 10:30 AM on Wednesday February 14, 2018 at VALLEY FUNERAL HOME, with Rev. Dee Sim officiating. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Wednesday morning beginning at 9:00 AM until the 10:30 service. Entombment will be at Highland Memorial Park.
