Alice Smarzinski-Jansen

MADISON/APPLETON - Alice Smarzinski-Jansen, nee Jansen, age 96 passed away peacefully on March 29, 2018 at All Saints Assisted Living, Madison, WI.

Alice was born on June 9, 1921 the ninth child of Henry & Harriet (Vanden Heuvel) Jansen.  She married George Smarzinski on December 16, 1943.  Alice and George enjoyed a busy and joyful life while working and raising a family for 35 years until George’s passing on December 15, 1978.  Alice reacquired her maiden name when she married Elmer Jansen on October 18, 1980.  For the next 23 years Alice and Elmer spent summers in Wisconsin while enjoying winters at their home in Arizona until Elmer’s passing in Arizona on December 6, 2003.

She is survived by her three children: Gail (Robert) Morris, Madison, WI;  Louis (Rita) Smarzinski, Phoenix, AZ; Gwenn (Mark) Lewis, San Diego, CA; six grandchildren: Kim (William) Magyar, Kay Dombkowski, Nicole (Colin) Schmies, Andrew Smarzinski, Matthew (Francesca Hong) Morris, Benjamin (Philippa Grint) Lewis; seven great-grandchildren: Clara & Miles Magyar, Alec & Luke Dombkowski, Hanalei & Marcella Schmies, and George Morris;  half-brother, Ray Behling, and numerous nieces & nephews. 

Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 am on Saturday, April 14, 2018 at St Mary Parish, 312 S. State St. Appleton with Father Bill Swichtenberg officiating. Friends and family may visit at the church from 9:30 am until the time of Mass. Inurnment will take place at St. John Catholic Cemetery, Menasha.

The family wishes to extend their sincere & heartfelt appreciation to the wonderful staff at All Saints Assisted Living as well as Agrace Hospice Care for their kind, caring support of Mom.
