Solomon Goodman
Solomon Goodman 85, Appleton, passed away Sunday, June 27, 2010 at Carolina Manor with family by his side. He was born January 4, 1925 in New York to the late Samuel Abraham and Bertha (Itzkowitz) Goodman. Solomon served in the United States Army from 1943 1946 in Italy and France during WWII. While in the Army he earned a Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal, European Theatre of Operation Medal and WWII Victory Medal. He worked as a postal clerk for the United Postal Service in Long Island City, New York for over 30 years until his retirement in 1985. Solomon was a life member of the American Legion Post 0301 of New York and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees.

Solomon was an avid collector of sheet music and piano rolls. He especially loved to collect marches, and versions of the Star Spangled Banner. He was considered an expert in Titanic music, but his love of music extended to religious, patriotic and so many more. The library expanded to every version, publisher and different cover he could find. Solomons knowledge of copyrights was more extensive than most. He was a true music man.

He loved to search for and share unique articles with friends and family, spending hours copying and sending them all over the US. You never knew what would be in your mailbox, but it would be interesting.

Solomon was a true gentleman, friend and companion. There is not enough good we can say about him, so lets make it simple and say thank you for being a part of our lives. We are all enriched by you. You taught us to be kinder people. We will miss you, but know you will always be with us. Thank you for sharing your life with us.

Survivors include his sister-in-law, Anne Goodman, Boca Raton, FL; nieces: Barbara Holden, Branford, CT and Rhoda (Stephen) Moss, Boca Raton, FL; close family friends: Barbara and Charles Countney, Appleton; John and Mary Reinders, Oshkosh; Ben Pietrobono, LIC, New York and many music friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Isadore Goodman; sisters: Ruth (Al) Usuriel, Sarah Sadie (Jerome) Kemp and Charlotte (Frank) Levin.

A Mass of Celebration for Solomon will be held at 10:30 am, Tuesday, July 6, 2010 at St. Pius X Catholic Church with Rev. Tom Farrell officiating. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery, Appleton with Military Honors. Friends may visit the family Monday at the Valley Funeral Home from 6 8 PM and again at the church Tuesday from 9:00 am until the time of mass.

In lieu of flowers, a donation may be given to the American Lung Association or ThedaCare at Home Hospice in Solomons name.

A special thank you to the members of ThedaCare at Home Hospice and the staff of Carolina Manor, for their wonderful care and concern shown to Sol.
