Clark William Safford of Appleton, age 74 died at Saint Elizabeths Hospital on May 21, 2007 with his family by his side. He was born September 8, 1932 in Green Bay, WI and was the son of the late J. Dudley and Mary (Stinn) Safford. He married Patricia A. Craanen on November 19, 1955 in Green Bay, WI. Clark worked for Bergstrom Paper Company in Neenah and Oscar Boldt in Appleton doing data processing. Then he dabbled in real estate for a number of years in property management until his death. He was an avid Packer fan and attended games for close to 50 years. He loved playing cards with his friends and family. He was a loving husband for 51 years, proud father, grandfather and great grandfather. He had a great sense of humor and always tried to think positive. He believed in the Lord, which helped him through all of the 74 years of his life. He was a member of Saint Pius X Catholic Church for many years and, with his wife, was very active in the activities of the church.

He is survived by his loving wife, Pat, for 51 years. He has eight children; Craig Safford (Carla Sawyer), Clear Lake Oaks, CA, Kathleen Safford (Charles Starke), Weirsdale, FL, Diane (Les Smith) Richardson-Smith, Neenah, Scott Anthony Safford deceased in 1988, Jay (Michelle) Safford, Laura Safford (Greg Ziegler), both of Neenah, Mary (Danny) Drawenek, Larsen, and David Safford, Neenah. Clark is also survived by five grandchildren; Shauna Hansen (Scott Wied), Jacob Richardson (Ashley Brandtmeier), and Brian Richardson, all of Neenah, Patrick Safford-Ison, Argonne, and Rosaline Weitersen, Oroville, CA. Great grandchildren are Mason and Halle Hansen, Neenah; nine step grandchildren and three step great grandchildren; brothers and sisters are Dudley Safford, Fort Myers, FL, Thecla (Jack) Krouth, Mary Lou Mohr, Suzanne (Ken) VanderLoop, Gerald (Jean) Safford and Danile (Jeanne) Safford, all of Green Bay, and Constance La Chapelle, Beaumont, TX and one sister-in-law, Eunice Mae Prevost, Green Bay. Clark is further survived by many fond nieces and nephews and many dear friends, including Tony and Mary Jane Koehn, Len and Ellen Rusch, Joan and Hank Etteldorf, Noreen Vanden Heuvel and many, many wonderful friends too numerous to mention, but so appreciated. If we have omitted any dear friends, please forgive us in this time of sorrow.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wifes parents, Eunice Mae (Mahn) and Joseph Craanen; his brother, Larry Safford; and brother-in-law, Jerome Mohr; wifes brother, Lee Craanen, and wife, Elaine; and wifes sister, Mary Lou Pashek.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:00 am Thursday May 24, 2007 at St. Pius X Catholic Church with Rev. Tom Farrell and Rev Quinn Mann officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4  8 pm at the funeral home with a 7:30 prayer service and again at the church Thursday one hour prior to the Mass. Interment will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Appleton at 2:00 pm Thursday with Military Honors being performed. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund will be established.

Our family would like to express thanks to all the doctors and nurses in the ICU at St. Elizabeths Hospital for the wonderful care given to Clark during this past month.
